Nayeli's First Day of Kindergarten

The emotions first started pouring out on my way to the grocery store. I was getting teary eyed thinking about buying Nayeli food for her school lunches. The people at the store were probably wondering what was wrong with me. I mean really. Who cries over picking out fruit?

Although I had mixed emotions about Nayeli starting kindergarten, she was one hundred percent excited! The last couple of weeks she was counting down the days to kindergarten.

When we got to her school we had to figure out what line to wait in before they opened up the school. Once we were safely in line I started to well up with tears again. Luckily they never flowed. The teachers were busy enough trying to comfort a few kindergartners who were crying. They didn't need to worry about a parent too!

I walked Nayeli to the school gym and stood there while the principal welcomed the students. I thought the whole assembly was pointless. It took forever to get all the kids in the gym. For what? A few short boring words from the principal. There was one bright spot though. I met a parent who was also sending off her first kindergartner to school. It helped me to keep the tears from flowing again. I think I was as scared as Nayeli was. It was a weird feeling dropping your child off to a new school that was a little unfamiliar.

After the assembly I walked Nayeli to her classroom. Her school has 3 stories. Luckily Nayeli's classroom is not on the third floor! After an opening exercise I kissed her goodbye and walked away. I felt sad, but I was glad I stayed and was there with her the first hour of school. I think we were both less scared when we parted.
